Our right to vote.
We are powerful. With nearly 30 million eligible Latino voters in the U.S., our community will play a decisive role in this and future elections.
Dear Friends,
In recent weeks, the Latino vote has come under direct attack by Indiana Secretary of State Diego Morales and Attorney General Todd Rokita, who are leading efforts to question the citizenship of over 550,000 registered voters—many from communities like ours. In our recent press release, we condemned this blatant voter suppression and called out Morales for aligning with those who seek to silence our community.
Morales’ actions call to mind an old saying: “Crea fama y échate a dormir,” which loosely translates to “Create your fame and then go to sleep.” In Morales’ case, he built his career on the very policies meant to empower people like us. But now, driven by power, he’s using his platform to disenfranchise the very communities he once represented. This kind of betrayal is a stark reminder that not everyone who looks like us has our best interests at heart.
With nearly 1 in 8 registered voters now under scrutiny, Morales and Rokita are intentionally sowing confusion, creating barriers for eligible voters who have every right to cast their ballot. This is a blatant attack on our community, and the timing is no coincidence—just weeks before Election Day. Their actions are meant to intimidate voters.
Indiana’s voter registration has already closed, and federal law prohibits purging voters this close to an election. Instead of inspiring confidence in our election system, Morales and Rokita are leveraging fear and misinformation to suppress our community’s voice.
These tactics are not new. Time and time again, we’ve seen how those in power try to silence us when they realize the strength of our voice. And make no mistake—we are powerful. With nearly 30 million eligible Latino voters in the U.S., our community will play a decisive role in this and future elections. But to fully realize our power, we need to turn out in greater numbers.
In 2020, only 16.5 million of us voted—just over half of the eligible voters in our community. Imagine the difference we could make if we all showed up this time. With less than 12 days until Election Day, it’s critical that we use our collective power at the polls.
This Election Matters—More Than Ever
The upcoming election is not just about today—it’s about our future ability to vote and be heard. As we stated in our press release, this is about more than just voter ID laws or election policies—this is about protecting our fundamental right to participate in democracy. We are powerful. Every vote we cast is a step forward, a bold declaration that we will not be silenced. Every time we encourage someone else to vote, we strengthen our collective voice as a community.
We are resilient, we are impactful, and together we can ensure our voices are heard.
